Metal Fabricating, with specialty

Fabricates metal products (primarily steel and iron, but others, too). Processes include bending, punching, shearing, welding, assembly operations. Job prices go from a few hundred to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Much time and materials work. About 200 customers, most within a 100 mile radius. Company also specializes in fabricating glass-bending molds; which has extremely precise, tight tolerances. Very few fabricators equipped to do this. Only one known competitor in area. It is steady work because it is specialized. The molds have only a limited useful life leading to replacement work. Customer loyalty is high; generally about 80% of customers award at least one job a year; ranging from publicly-traded companies to small private firms. Company's outlook is as good as ever because: 1. it continues to reap benefit of its reputation for service and fair pricing; 2. it seems well-insulated from downturns by the sizeable number of customers and diversity of industries it represents; 3. it is not highly dependent on the local industries most hard hit, e.g., autos and auto parts. Though there are no guaranteed orders, customers have been steady as the products it makes cannot be rolled of an assembly line; 4. the work is very labor intensive; steady and predictable because of its variety - customers rarely have either equipment or skilled work force to perform tasks that are not very large or produced with regular frequency; 5. the glass-molding is performed at higher than usual margins.
